Baby Namings
Baby Naming Ceremonies
Leanne, Andy and Tess
Giving a name is one of the first ways in which we acknowledge that a new baby is a person in their own right. A Naming Ceremony is the perfect way to celebrate this. Gather your family and friends together to welcome and embrace the newest member. A naming Ceremony can also bond the modern family, embrace an adopted child or stepchildren regardless of age.
You can hold your ceremony wherever and whenever you choose. They usually last around a half hour and are child centred informal affairs. The parents express their love for the child and through especially written promises declare their commitment, their hopes and dreams for their child’s future.
You can include family, friends and other children through music, readings and poetry. Some parents choose Guide parents for their children. These special people make public promises to show their commitment and love for the child.
During the ceremony I light a beautiful personalised candle to celebrate the naming, you also receive, as a keepsake a Certificate of Naming and a bound copy of your script. You can also choose some fun little special extras from the list below to add some colour and excitement to your day.
Special Extras
Pebble Wishes Jar
Throughout the ceremony everyone holds a pebble, (they can bring their own or be given one on the day) They infuse their pebble with love and good wishes for the child and the family. We collect the pebbles at the end of the ceremony and then they are kept in a pretty jar as a keepsake and a reminder of all the love on the baby’s special naming day.
Balloon Release
Your quests write special messages of love and attach these to balloons. Even absent family or friends wishes can be attached and released into the sky at the end of the naming ceremony.
Best Wishes Box
Everyone receives a small card. They take a few minutes to write down their hopes and wishes for the child and the family. During the ceremony they place the cards into the box and the family opens them at a time of their choosing
Time Capsule
Family and friends place something of significance from the date of the child’s birthday or naming day into a box to be opened on their 21st birthday. This can be messages, photos, small gifts, money.
True Love Tree
During the ceremony family and friends attach their messages of love and good wishes to the True Love Tree which can be a branch of a tree from the garden or a wall hanging.
Rose Petal Shower
The colours of rose petals have symbolic meanings - White for innocence and purity, Yellow for friendship, Pink for unconditional love. Choose one colour or many for your family and friends to create a rose petal shower to celebrate the naming of your child.
Unity Sand Ceremony
Sand of different colour’s from separate containers, is poured by the parents or family and friends of your choosing, into one larger container to be kept as a reminder that the child’s family is united in love and care of the child.
Hand Fasting
Often used in wedding ceremonies, this ancient Celtic tradition uses symbolic coloured ribbons, chosen by the parents, to bind the family together in love and commitment to the wellbeing of the child.
Circle of Love and Protection
Everyone holds hands to create a circle around the family unit as the naming takes place, to 'lock in' their commitment to love and protect the child always.
Please note for some of these little extras there might be a small charge to cover the cost of materials. If you provide these yourself then there is no charge at all.
